The TP4056 is a lithium battery charging controller used to safely charge the pen’s rechargeable battery ion/Li-Po. It manages the entire charging process by regulating voltage and current, ensuring the battery is charged efficiently without overcharging or overheating
The MPU6050 is a 6-axis motion tracking device that combines a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer. It provides precise motion detection and orientation data for the ZekInk pen.
The microphone and speaker in ZekInk enable interactive AI support, making the pen more than just a tracking device. The microphone captures the student’s voice, allowing them to ask questions or request help while studying. This audio is processed by an AI system, which understands the query and generates a response. The speaker then delivers real-time feedback, explanations, or guidance directly to the student.
The ESP32 serves as the central processing unit of the ZekInk smart pen, functioning as the system’s brain that connects all hardware and software components. It continuously gathers raw data from embedded sensors such as the FSR (pressure sensor) and MPU6050 (accelerometer and gyroscope), then performs initial real-time processing to identify meaningful patterns related to writing behavior and attention. With its built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, the ESP32 transmits this data seamlessly to the mobile application or backend system for further AI-based analysis.
Detects 4,096 levels of pressure for determining wether the pen is held.

ZekInk determines a student’s focus by analyzing multiple data points collected from the smart pen’s sensors in real time. These include handwriting pressure (FSR sensor), movement patterns (accelerometer/gyroscope), and writing consistency (speed and pauses). When a student is focused, their writing tends to be steady, consistent, and controlled. When attention drops, the system detects irregular patterns such as frequent pauses, unstable movements, or reduced pressure. ZekInk’s AI model processes this combined sensor data to identify patterns of focus and distraction, allowing it to estimate attention levels and detect focus drops with high accuracy.
ZekInk can work for approximately 8–10 hours of continuous use on a full charge, depending on how actively the sensors and Wifi connection are used.
The smart pen connects to a companion mobile application, allowing real-time data transfer and monitoring on smartphones or tablets. This type of smart pen setup is commonly designed to support both operating systems via Bluetooth-connected apps.
